Video Editor (NJ PBS)
About the role
The editor reports to the News Director and is responsible for editing video content for NJ PBS broadcasts, streaming platforms, and digital distribution. They collaborate with producers, content partners, and the programming team to assemble packages, long-form programs, promos, and digital shorts.
Responsibilities
- Edit packages, features, short form video, clips, social media posts, promos, and long-form content to broadcast specifications.
- Collaborate with producers, the programming team and external content partners to develop story structure and pacing through the edit process.
- Color-correct and mix audio for broadcast delivery, ensuring technical compliance with station standards.
- Manage and organize media assets in the MAM system, maintaining searchable metadata and project files.
- Meet deadlines, editing content under time pressure.
- Ensure technical compliance for broadcast, digital, and streaming delivery, including loudness standards and frame-accurate editing.
- Contribute to post-production workflow improvements, identifying bottlenecks and recommending process changes.
- Archive finished projects per the station's retention policy and file-naming conventions.
- Adhere to NJ PBS editorial standards and public media ethics guidelines.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in journalism, communications, broadcasting or a related field.
- Minimum three years of experience in working as a professional video editor.
- Demonstrated experience using video editing software (Adobe Premiere Pro, Avid Media Composer, or equivalent).
- Experience editing content for broadcast or digital distribution to technical delivery specifications.
- Ability to meet daily news deadlines in a fast-paced production environment.
Preferred Experience
- In a public media or broadcast news editing environment.
- Familiarity with media asset management (MAM) systems.
- Knowledge of closed captioning and accessibility requirements.

Pay
$76,486.40-$84,131.83 Annually
