Vice President of Institutional Advancement, Philanthropy and Community Engagement - MCHS

General Summary

The Vice President (VP) serves as a key leadership team member and active participant in making strategic decisions affecting the College. The VP is instrumental in engaging MercyOne Foundation, the President, and the Cabinet in the creation and implementation of a long-term fund development strategy that can sustain and strengthen the entire institution.

Maintains the confidentiality of the President’s office and all Mercy College donor and constituent information; uses appropriate discretion in all interactions with internal departments, donors, constituents, and board members; promotes/maintains a positive image of both the College and the office of the President.

Fundraising

• Create plans and campaigns that will ensure that the College’s fundraising goals are achieved through multiple fundraising approaches that reach a diversity of donors and is clear in its objectives, goals, target audiences, timelines, and assignment of responsibilities.
• Manage a portfolio of major donors and prospects, and facilitate the President’s engagement with a select and targeted group of major donors and prospects.
• Advise the President on the relationship building and fundraising opportunities that are strategic and of the highest priority and ensure that his/her time is scheduled effectively in fundraising and donor cultivation processes.
• Stewardship and Alumni Relations

• Coordinate with the MercyOne Foundation to support donor outreach, fund management, and donor acknowledgements.
• Serve as the primary contact for the Alumni Association.
• Facilitate quarterly meetings, events, committee meetings and activities to engage alumni and donors.
• Facilitate communication and collaboration across college functions and avert organizational silos to strategically make informed philanthropic investment decisions on behalf of the College.
• Collaborate with the President, in establishing and monitoring of the budget for the College Development Office, while collaborating with other College Departments to understand funding needs and resources.

Advise and Support

• Work collaboratively with the Vice President of Business and the entire leadership team in creating the organization’s overall budget by providing accurate information and the best forecasts possible.

Community Engagement

• Lead engagement to create strategies that support fundraising and awareness-building goals as well as program strategies that support engagement and increased donor/volunteer commitment to the College mission.
• Work with the President to keep MercyOne Foundation and the College’s Board of Directors informed of philanthropy activities; assist in training Board members in fundraising; help to identify and recruit new Board members.
• Stay informed and up to date on community, state, and national issues that have a bearing on the work of the College.
• Engage and enhance the culture of philanthropy both on and off campus by cultivating strong working relationships.
• Represent the College at events, to volunteer groups, and in the community with the goal of increasing the visibility of the college’s fundraising priorities and needs.
• Create additional business, non-profit, and community partnerships for student needs.
