Vice President Marketing Technology
Our client is a national leader in the health insurance acquisition and enrollment sector, leveraging a sophisticated platform to power consumer acquisition, agent enablement, and call center operations within a regulated, high-performance environment. As they continue to scale, they are strategically elevating their technology function and seeking a visionary Vice President of Technology to spearhead this critical transformation.
About the role
This is the top technology leadership position within the organization, offering full ownership of the technical direction and team. The ideal candidate will be a high-agency operator capable of driving significant business impact through technological innovation and strategic execution, assessing current engineering realities, cultivating a performance-driven culture, and delivering against a clear technology roadmap while ensuring continuous operational output.
Location preference is hybrid in Columbus, OH or Fort Lauderdale, FL, though exceptional remote candidates who are flexible to travel (estimated 10-15% for initial in-person team integration and quarterly meetings) will be considered. This role reports directly to executive leadership with regular visibility and interaction with the board, overseeing a team of 5-10 employees.
Responsibilities
- Strategic & Business Partnership: Act as a critical partner to business leaders, translating commercial and revenue objectives into clear technical requirements and strategic solutions that drive tangible business outcomes.
- Engineering Transformation & Velocity: Implement and optimize structured SDLC processes to establish predictable, high-velocity release cycles with clear sprint accountability. Introduce measurable engineering KPIs and performance dashboards to reduce development churn and technical inefficiencies.
- Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, and evolve a diverse technical team, including internal and offshore developers, data engineers, and IT coordinators. Foster a high-performance culture focused on accountability and ownership.
- IT & Software Development Oversight: Provide executive leadership over both Information Technology (including telecom stack management, end-user support for 200+ employees, devices, and network infrastructure) and the core software and technical development product.
- AI & Platform Innovation: Drive strategic AI initiatives aimed at enhancing call center efficiency, optimizing lead generation, and improving agent productivity. Oversee the deployment of intelligent routing, automation, and decisioning tools, as well as the continued buildout of the agent interface platform.
- Architectural & Process Excellence: Implement robust processes for build vs. buy decisions, system and vendor selection, and overall systems architecture. Ensure that technical solutions align with and effectively meet evolving business requirements.
- Operational Resilience: Proactively diagnose and resolve system performance bottlenecks. Oversee infrastructure management, critical vendor relationships, security protocols, and compliance within a highly regulated environment.
- Executive Communication: Articulate complex technical strategies, progress, and risks clearly and concisely to executive leadership and the board, effectively bridging the communication gap between technical and business stakeholders.
Requirements
- Extensive Experience: 10–15+ years of progressive technology leadership experience.
- Transformative Track Record: A proven history of successfully rebuilding or significantly improving engineering teams and processes in growth-stage environments.
- Formal Management Expertise: Demonstrated experience managing formal technical development teams (e.g., BA, QA, PM, Scrum Cycle, 2-week Sprints, Agile Development Methodology).
- IT Infrastructure Acumen: Experience managing IT operations, including infrastructure and end-user help desk functions.
- AI Deployment: Hands-on experience deploying AI solutions in operational settings.
- Domain Familiarity: Experience within regulated or compliance-sensitive industries is highly preferred. Familiarity with contact communications platforms, specifically a 5:9 dialer and its custom integrations, is a significant advantage.
- Technical Depth: While this is a strategic role, candidates must be technically adept enough to understand and guide architectural decisions and ensure robust technical execution. Familiarity with modern tech stacks including Python, PHP/Laravel, MySQL, PostgreSQL, JavaScript/React/Angular, and RESTful APIs is expected.
- Strategic Mindset: A strong business acumen and a clear understanding that technology is an enabler of business growth and revenue impact, particularly in high-volume, sales-driven environments (e.g., FinTech, InsureTech).
- Leadership Qualities: Exceptional leadership skills, executive presence, high accountability, and a low-ego, high-output approach.
