Position Summary

The Vice President, Construction, provides strategic vision, executive leadership, and operational oversight for all construction activities and construction management teams. This high-impact leader is responsible for all tenant improvement, capital upgrade, reinvestment/repositioning upgrades, and ground-up development construction management within the Irvine Company Office Properties Orange County portfolio. Serving as the primary collaborative bridge between Construction, Leasing, Asset Management, Operations, Accounting, Legal, and Planning & Design, the Vice President drives departmental performance while maintaining elite customer experience standards. This role oversees a volume of approximately $200M to $300M in annual construction and directly leads a team of Directors, Construction Managers, and Coordinators alongside an extensive network of third-party consultants and contractors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide executive oversight and operational direction for the Orange County Construction team, ensuring departmental alignment with broader corporate goals.
  • Cultivate a high-performing team through targeted coaching, mentorship, and leadership development, while building robust training frameworks for both internal and external partners.
  • Establish clear cross-departmental workflows and continuously evaluate internal operations to integrate new technologies and improve overall efficiency.
  • Balance operational workloads across Directors and Construction Managers to proactively address staffing constraints and maintain peak performance.
  • Lead high-value contract negotiations, master agreements, and change orders with architects, engineers, and general contractors.
  • Spearhead early-stage constructability reviews, provide Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) pricing, and partner on financial proforma development and acquisition due diligence.
  • Serve as the company's internal construction expert, advising executive leadership on market indicators, macro buyout strategies, and emerging industry trends.

Additional Skills

  • Proficient knowledge of all financial aspects related to commercial office construction, including value-engineering, proposals, bid-leveling, estimating, budget control, pay applications, and tenant billings
  • Expert-level knowledge of commercial office MEP, Civil, Structural Engineering, and construction document plan review
  • Thorough working knowledge of MS Office, Google Office Suite, and MS Project

Preferred Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent experience)
  • Construction/Project Management, Architecture, Civil Engineering, or related

Preferred Years of Relevant Work Experience

  • 15+

Additional Requirements

  • LEED Certification preferred
  • Valid California driver’s license; Maintain continuous vehicle liability insurance as required by state law. (This role requires the regular and frequent operation of a vehicle, as defined in the Company’s MVR policy, and is part of the essential duties of this position.)

Compensation

  • Base Pay Range: $220,400.00 - $308,200.00
  • Actual placement within this range may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location.
