About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Veterinary Technician Supervisor to lead one of New England's premier specialty neurology programs at Pieper Memorial Veterinary Center in Middletown, CT. This is a working supervisor position where you will divide your time between providing direct patient care and leading the Neurology team. You will work alongside board-certified neurologists, residents, and a collaborative team of specialists to deliver advanced medical and surgical care to patients with complex neurologic diseases.

Our service utilizes cutting-edge technology, including an in-house high-field MRI, CT, digital radiography, and specialized neurologic diagnostics. Responsibilities include performing advanced spinal and brain surgeries, managing complex seizure disorders, and providing emergency neurology services.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day leadership for the Neurology team, including coaching, mentoring, and developing staff.
  • Coordinate workflow, support operational excellence, and foster a positive team culture.
  • Deliver direct patient care, including advanced specialty nursing and anesthesia.
  • Promote hospital directives and protocols while modeling a respectful, collaborative, and productive work environment.
  • Build relationships with clients, doctors, and team members while navigating challenging conversations when needed.
  • Operate and troubleshoot mechanical ventilators and perform advanced anesthesia monitoring.
  • Perform phlebotomy, peripheral IV catheter placement, and nursing care for hospitalized patients.
  • Assess client needs and deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced specialty environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of experience in a specialty veterinary hospital.
  • Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) preferred; Associate's Degree in Veterinary Technology is a plus.
  • Previous leadership, mentoring, or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Interest in pursuing or currently working toward a Veterinary Technician Specialty (VTS) in Neurology is encouraged.
  • Proficiency in advanced anesthesia monitoring and patient management.
  • Experience with CPR, mechanical ventilators, phlebotomy, and IV catheter placement.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends, holidays, and on-call rotations.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

Skills

Pay

$26.50–$36.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. Candidates possessing a Veterinary Technician Specialty (VTS) in Neurology will receive increased compensation commensurate with their advanced training and specialty certification.

Schedule

  • Full-time position: 4 days a week / 10-hour shifts
  • Weekend rotation required
  • Must be available for flexible shifts and on-call when needed
  • Required to work one major and one minor holiday per year
  • Participation in an on-call rotation as needed
