South Orange Animal Hospital is a four-doctor small animal practice in South Orange, New Jersey, dedicated to providing excellent, compassionate medical care to our patients. We’re looking for an experienced Veterinary Technician to join our full-time team in a supportive, collaborative environment where your skills and contributions are valued.

About the Role

A full-time Veterinary Technician position with a 4-day work week and rotating Saturday shifts. This role offers a team-first culture, professional growth opportunities, and a workplace that balances hard work with laughter and celebration of individuality.

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians during examinations, treatments, surgeries, and dental procedures
  • Triage patients and obtain thorough medical histories, vital signs, and patient assessments
  • Provide compassionate, high-quality nursing care from patient intake through discharge
  • Safely handle and restrain patients using appropriate techniques
  • Perform venipuncture, IV catheter placement, fluid therapy, and diagnostic sample collection
  • Prepare and administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed
  • Obtain high-quality diagnostic radiographs
  • Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for reference laboratories
  • Prepare patients and equipment for surgical and dental procedures
  • Monitor anesthesia and patient vital signs throughout procedures and recovery
  • Educate clients regarding medications, preventive care, treatment plans, and discharge instructions
  • Maintain accurate and complete medical records
  • Keep treatment, surgical, and exam areas clean, organized, stocked, and ready for patient care
  • Collaborate with doctors and teammates to maintain an efficient workflow and positive hospital culture

Requirements

  • Previous Veterinary Technician experience in a clinical setting
  • Licensed Veterinary Technician credential welcomed but not required
  • Strong technical skills and confidence providing hands-on patient care
  • Experience with venipuncture, IV catheter placement, laboratory procedures, and diagnostic imaging
  • Knowledge of anesthesia monitoring, surgical assistance, and patient recovery
  • Safe and compassionate patient handling and restraint skills
  • Excellent communication and client education skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask and remain composed in a busy veterinary environment
  • Positive attitude, dependability, and a collaborative mindset
  • Willingness to share your experience while continuing to learn and grow
  • Genuine passion for veterinary medicine and exceptional patient care
