Responsibilities
- Support your practice team by providing high-level, competent veterinary support care and embodying the Chewy Vet Care culture to deliver the pet parent WOW experience.
- Implement outlined policies and procedures, utilize integrated technology, and deliver consistent and appropriate medical care within your skill set.
- Perform and assist with diagnostics (fecals, cytology, urinalysis, bloodwork).
- Draw blood from common venipuncture sites.
- Operate and maintain in-house lab machines.
- Obtain and process pre-surgical diagnostics (ECG, bloodwork, etc.).
- Lead anesthesia induction and provide advanced surgical monitoring and support.
- Prepare the operating room, surgical equipment, and supplies while maintaining asepsis.
- Position patients and take diagnostic radiographs with proper collimation; understand radiology safety.
- Perform advanced dentistry, including dental prophylaxis and full-mouth dental x-rays.
- Place IV catheters, administer medications and fluids, and provide inpatient care.
- Calculate, prepare, and reconstitute medications; manage controlled substances.
- Maintain controlled substance logs and assist with inventory needs.
- Provide advanced patient and critical care (triage, oxygen therapy, cardiac monitoring).
- Aid in resuscitation efforts.
- Obtain thorough patient histories and ensure complete SOAP documentation.
- Support veterinarians to ensure safe patient treatment in alignment with Chewy Vet Care’s Standards of Care.
- Lead technician appointments and mentor others.
- Serve as a PIMS administrative super-user; aid others.
- Understand and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Standards of Care (SOCs).
- Assist practice manager with communicating inventory needs.
- Clean workspaces after every patient or patient lab sample interaction.
- Participate in self-development courses and required compliance training.
- Perform related duties and assignments as directed by management.
Requirements
- Veterinary technician certification or licensure preferred (or eligibility to obtain).
- Demonstrated ability to complete the veterinary technician skills checklist for Veterinary Technician I, II, and III.
- Minimum of 7 years of practice experience (general practice & surgery); 3+ years leadership or mentorship experience preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year experience with inventory management.
- Proven ability to lead by example in delivering high-quality, compassionate patient care.
- Strong leadership and team collaboration skills, with a passion for supporting and developing veterinary professionals.
- Excellent practice judgment and decision-making abilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to foster a positive, transparent, and inclusive team culture.
- Ability to analyze practice-level performance metrics and collaborate with practice leadership to drive improvements.
- Skilled in time management, delegation, and maintaining a healthy team workflow.
- Business curiosity or financial acumen with a willingness to learn operational metrics and contribute to practice success.
- Passion for continuous learning, innovation, and elevating the standards of veterinary care.
- Demonstrated professionalism and ability to represent the practice and Chewy Vet Care positively within the local community.
- Position may require some travel.
Physical Requirements
- Standing or walking up to 80% per shift.
- Frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
- Frequently lift up to 70 pounds using an optional team lift.
- Rarely lift greater than 70+ pounds using a team lift.
- Stand, push, pull, carry, squat, and kneel.
