Responsibilities

  • Triage patients and obtain thorough medical histories
  • Collect and document patient vital signs and assessments
  • Safely handle and restrain patients during examinations, treatments, and procedures
  • Assist veterinarians with appointments, treatments, and medical procedures
  • Support surgical procedures, including patient preparation, monitoring, recovery, and instrument care
  • Assist with dental procedures and patient monitoring
  • Collect and prepare diagnostic samples based on experience and training
  • Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian and within the scope of your role
  • Monitor patients and communicate changes in condition to the medical team
  • Educate clients about patient care, medications, discharge instructions, and preventive healthcare
  • Maintain accurate and complete medical records
  • Keep treatment and patient-care areas clean, organized, stocked, and ready for the next patient
  • Anticipate the needs of veterinarians and teammates to promote an efficient daily workflow
  • Jump in wherever needed to support patients, clients, and coworkers
  • Occasionally participate in what can only be described as a cat rodeo

Requirements

  • Previous hands-on veterinary experience
  • Veterinary Technician licensure is welcomed but not required for all candidates
  • Strong patient handling and restraint skills
  • Experience assisting with veterinary examinations, treatments, and procedures
  • Comfort triaging patients and obtaining thorough histories and vital signs
  • Experience supporting surgical and dental procedures based on your training and role
  • Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Clear, compassionate client communication
  • Confidence educating clients about medications, discharge instructions, and preventive care
  • The ability to multitask and adapt in a busy clinical environment
  • Dependability and a strong sense of ownership over your responsibilities
  • A positive, collaborative approach to teamwork
  • Curiosity and a desire to continue learning
  • A willingness to ask for help and offer it when a teammate needs it
  • A genuine commitment to excellent patient care
