About the Role
Veterinary Specialty Hospital – North County is seeking a board-certified or residency-trained Small Animal Internal Medicine Specialist to join our collaborative and growing specialty team in San Marcos, California. This is an opportunity to join an established Internal Medicine service within a 24/7 emergency and specialty referral hospital and help shape its continued growth alongside our current Internists. You'll have the opportunity to manage a diverse and complex caseload while working closely with specialists across multiple disciplines.

Our team includes specialists in Emergency & Critical Care, Surgery, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Medical Oncology, Diagnostic Imaging, Ophthalmology, and Cardiology, creating a truly multidisciplinary environment for complex case management.
Our Internal Medicine service is supported by advanced diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities, including:

VSH North County is relocating to a new 35,000-square-foot hospital in San Marcos in early 2027. The expanded facility will provide greater clinical capacity and specialty space, giving our incoming Internist a meaningful opportunity to help shape the future of Internal Medicine in a new environment. Responsibilities
- Provide advanced Internal Medicine care for a diverse and complex referral caseload
- Develop comprehensive diagnostic and treatment plans for challenging medical cases
- Collaborate closely with Emergency & Critical Care, Surgery, Neurology, Medical Oncology, Diagnostic Imaging, Ophthalmology, Cardiology, and other specialty services
- Utilize advanced diagnostic capabilities including CT, MRI, ultrasound, endoscopy, fluoroscopy, and digital radiography
- Perform and develop advanced diagnostic and minimally invasive procedures within the scope of your interests and expertise
- Work alongside an experienced Internal Medicine team with strong technician support
- Build strong relationships with referring veterinarians and serve as a trusted Internal Medicine resource for the community
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients regarding diagnoses, treatment options, and prognosis
- Participate in mentorship, teaching, and professional development opportunities
- Contribute to the continued growth and development of the Internal Medicine service
- Help shape Internal Medicine within VSH North County's new 35,000-square-foot facility
- Contribute to a collaborative hospital culture centered on multidisciplinary medicine, clinical excellence, and team well-being
Requirements
- DVM or equivalent veterinary degree
- Board certification in Small Animal Internal Medicine or completion of an Internal Medicine residency with eligibility for board certification
- Eligibility for veterinary licensure in California
- Strong clinical and communication skills
- A collaborative approach to multidisciplinary medicine
- Commitment to exceptional patient and client care
- Interest in contributing to the continued development of an established Internal Medicine service
- A passion for complex case management, continuous learning, and advancing specialty medicine
- Whether an experienced diplomate or recently completing residency, an enthusiasm for building a long-term career within a collaborative specialty environment
Compensation
$190,000–$225,000 base + 25% production potential, based on experience and qualifications.
