Veterinary Extern - General Practice | January 2027

About the role

This unique externship experience focuses on clinical training. Students will work with local rescue patients gaining skills in surgery, dentistry, wellness, and sick visits. The externship will take place at our new PetOne Veterinary training facility and include rotations through local NVA GP clinics in the greater Chicago area.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with supervising veterinarians and our Mentor Doctor Team
• Gather patient histories
• Perform physical exams
• Develop treatment plans including diagnostics
• Provide dentistry services
• Observe, assist, or perform surgical procedures
• Manage patient care
• Develop communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients

Requirements

• Class of 2027 veterinary students currently enrolled at an AVMA-Accredited Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program
• PLIT insurance (free with SAVMA membership)
• Medical insurance
