Veterinary Extern - General Practice
About the role
An externship experience at Nutley Animal Hospital will provide students with a unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in various aspects of veterinary care.
Responsibilities
- Gain experience in gathering patient histories
- Perform physical exams
- Create treatment plans
- Diagnose and perform diagnostics
- Provide dental services
- Assist or perform surgical procedures
- Manage medical cases
- Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients
Requirements
Students must be enrolled in a veterinary program and have completed the clinical portion of their education. They should also have a strong interest in veterinary medicine and a willingness to learn from experienced veterinarians.
Qualifications
Preference will be given to students who have demonstrated leadership qualities, strong academic performance, and a commitment to animal welfare.
Skills
Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic computer skills are also required.
Benefits
Students will receive a travel/living expense stipend of $500. This stipend is available to Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education.

The stipend amount for Nutley Animal Hospital is $500.
Schedule
All externship experiences at Nutley Animal Hospital range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules.
