About the role
An externship experience at Butler Veterinary Associates and Emergency Center will provide students with a unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of a veterinary practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. The hospital environment is supportive, committed to excellent medicine, and provides exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gather patient histories, perform physical exams, create treatment plans, conduct diagnostics, perform dental services, observe/supervise or perform surgical procedures, and manage medical cases.
- Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Qualifications
- Veterinary students (all class years) are encouraged to participate.
- Students in the clinical portion of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
Schedule
Externship experiences typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules.
Pay
NVA does not specify pay rates for externships.
