Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Responsibilities

• Participate in routine and complex medical and surgical care for animals.
• Assist in dental procedures, including extractions and cleanings.
• Contribute to the daily operations of the hospital, including scheduling and managing appointments.
• Collaborate with the MDVM and part-time DVM on orthopedic surgeries and dentistry.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education.
• Passionate about animal care and interested in gaining practical experience.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong communication skills and ability to interact with clients and other staff.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in a recognized veterinary school.
• Passing score on the North American Veterinary Licensing Exam (NAVLE) or passing score on the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination (NAVLE) if not yet licensed.

Skills

• Basic knowledge of veterinary medicine and surgery.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and professionally.

Pay

Travel/living expense stipends are available for veterinary students participating in NVA externships.

Schedule

Externships typically range from two to eight weeks, accommodating both student and hospital schedules.
