Veterinary Extern - General Practice

About the role

An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands-on clinical experience.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with the supervising Associate Veterinarians
• Gather patient histories
• Perform physical exams
• Create treatment plans
• Diagnose and perform diagnostics
• Provide dental services
• Assist or perform surgical procedures
• Manage medical care for patients
• Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients

Requirements

• Strong interest in and commitment to feline-only care beyond graduation
• Eligible for a travel/living expense stipend for veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education

Qualifications

• Feline-only practice environment
• Advanced ultrasound capabilities including FAST ultrasound assessment and echocardiograms
• Endoscopy services for upper and lower gastrointestinal tract
• Dental care services including whole-mouth extractions with dental X-rays
• Internal medicine cases, second opinions, wellness, surgical, dentistry, and referral center services
• Opportunity to deepen knowledge and skills in feline-focused care
