Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Job Description

An externship experience at Parkway Veterinary Hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. Responsibilities

• Work closely with the supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients.
• Practice clinical skills, including but not limited to:
• Gathering patient histories
• Performing physical exams
• Creating treatment plans
• Diagnostics
• Dentistry services
• Observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures
• Medical management of patients
• Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Requirements

Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. Externships at Parkway Veterinary Hospital are designed for clinical year students.

Qualifications

Students must be enrolled in a veterinary school and in good academic standing.

Skills

Students should possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as a commitment to animal welfare.
