Veterinary Extern - General Practice

About the role

An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands-on clinical experience.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with the supervising veterinarian
• Gather patient histories
• Perform physical exams
• Create treatment plans
• Perform diagnostics
• Provide dental services
• Assist or perform surgical procedures
• Manage medical care of patients
• Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled veterinary students
• Open to participation regardless of class year
• Eligible for a travel/living expense stipend if in the clinical portion of their education

Schedule

Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules.

Stipend
