Veterinary Extern - General Practice

About the role

An externship experience at an NVA hospital will provide students with unique insights into the daily operations of animal healthcare practices. While each NVA hospital shares common elements such as a supportive and dedicated staff, the focus on providing exceptional care to both animals and their owners, this experience offers hands-on clinical training.

Responsibilities

• Gain experience in gathering patient histories
• Perform physical exams
• Create treatment plans
• Conduct diagnostics
• Provide dental services
• Assist or perform surgical procedures
• Manage medical cases
• Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients

Requirements

Veterinary students (all classes) are welcome to participate, and those in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. For more information about the stipend program, click here. The stipend for Valley Cottage Animal Hospital is $500.

Benefits

Qualifications

NVA hospitals are open to all veterinary students regardless of class year, provided they are in the clinical phase of their education.

Pay

The stipend for Valley Cottage Animal Hospital is $500.

Schedule

Externship experiences typically last from two to eight weeks, based on the availability of the student and the hospital schedule.
