About the role

The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) is seeking a full-time Veterinary Assistant to join our compassionate team. Our mission is to provide compassionate care to animals, support safe communities, and promote the well-being of pets and their owners.

Responsibilities

  • Support veterinarians during examinations and treatments
  • Safely restrain and handle animals during medical procedures
  • Administer medications and treatments as directed
  • Calculate medication dosages accurately
  • Maintain accurate medical records and enter data into shelter software
  • Clean kennels and provide daily animal care
  • Restock medical and surgical supplies
  • Assist with humane euthanasia procedures when necessary
  • Work collaboratively with shelter staff, volunteers, and other departments

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Previous animal handling experience preferred
  • Experience in a veterinary clinic, shelter, or animal care environment preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Standing and walking for extended periods
  • Frequent lifting and moving of animals and equipment weighing 25+ pounds and occasionally 40+ pounds
  • Working around animals, animal allergens, cleaning agents, and varying environmental conditions
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, reaching, and crouching
