About the role
The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) is seeking a full-time Veterinary Assistant to join our compassionate team. Our mission is to provide compassionate care to animals, support safe communities, and promote the well-being of pets and their owners.
Responsibilities
- Support veterinarians during examinations and treatments
- Safely restrain and handle animals during medical procedures
- Administer medications and treatments as directed
- Calculate medication dosages accurately
- Maintain accurate medical records and enter data into shelter software
- Clean kennels and provide daily animal care
- Restock medical and surgical supplies
- Assist with humane euthanasia procedures when necessary
- Work collaboratively with shelter staff, volunteers, and other departments
Qualifications
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
- Previous animal handling experience preferred
- Experience in a veterinary clinic, shelter, or animal care environment preferred
Physical Requirements
- Standing and walking for extended periods
- Frequent lifting and moving of animals and equipment weighing 25+ pounds and occasionally 40+ pounds
- Working around animals, animal allergens, cleaning agents, and varying environmental conditions
- Frequent bending, kneeling, reaching, and crouching
