About the role
A full-time Veterinary Assistant is needed for the Surgery team at Alpharetta Veterinary Specialty + Emergency (AVSE) in Alpharetta, GA. The position is suitable for an experienced Veterinary Assistant interested in a fast-paced surgical environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare surgical patients by obtaining vitals, assisting with restraint, blood collection, and IV catheter placement
- Assist with surgery preparation, including patient shaving and aseptic preparation of surgical sites
- Set up operating rooms for surgical procedures and maintain appropriate surgical standards
- Safely transport sedated and anesthetized patients to and from the operating room
- Support anesthesia recovery and provide patient monitoring as directed by the medical team
- Maintain sterile fields and assist with operating room daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance
- Perform in-house laboratory testing and diagnostic procedures
- Complete instrument cleaning, sterilization, and maintenance procedures
- Assist with advanced imaging procedures including X-ray, ultrasound, and CT
- Support radiograph positioning for orthopedic procedures, chest radiographs, chest tube placements, and urethral catheterization
- Prepare prescriptions and communicate discharge instructions clearly and compassionately to clients
- Provide exceptional client service from check-in through discharge
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient surgical department
- Collaborate with veterinarians, Veterinary Technicians, and team members to provide outstanding patient care
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of Veterinary Assistant or Veterinary Technician experience
- Experience with patient care, restraint, and basic veterinary procedures
- Interest in developing advanced skills within a surgical specialty environment
- Experience with surgical preparation, anesthesia support, or advanced diagnostics preferred
- Ability to work around anesthetic gases, chemicals, and zoonotic diseases
- Ability to safely lift and move patients and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to remain organized and efficient in a fast-paced surgical environment
- Reliable, dependable, and detail-oriented with a commitment to excellent patient care
- Fluent English speaking and reading skills required
