About the role
As an Emergency Veterinarian at Portland Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Care (PVESC), you’ll work alongside a highly skilled and collaborative team to provide exceptional care for emergency and critical care patients. You’ll manage a diverse and challenging caseload while having access to advanced technology, experienced support staff, and specialty colleagues who are committed to delivering the highest level of veterinary medicine.
Responsibilities
- Manage a diverse and challenging caseload of emergency and critical care patients
- Collaborate with a highly skilled and supportive team
- Utilize advanced technology and equipment to provide top-tier care
- Work in a progressive, supportive, and independently owned hospital setting
- Transition into a new 42,000 sq ft hospital opening in late 2026
Requirements
- Current license to practice veterinary medicine in Maine
- Experience in emergency and critical care
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate the needs of the hospital and patients
Qualifications
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an AVMA-accredited institution
- Completion of an ACVECC-approved residency program in emergency and critical care
- Passing scores on the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination (NAVLE)

Compensation is commensurate with experience.
