About the Role

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is a member of the EMS team, providing direct, safe, dignified, efficient, and concerned patient care under the direct supervision of the Ambulance Manager. This role performs duties consistent with the mission and values of Madison Valley Medical Center (MVMC).

Responsibilities

• Ensure satisfactory time and attendance.
• Participate in shift change to promote a team approach to patient care.
• Stay updated on hospital, nursing, and EMS emails.
• Follow all FCC regulations when communicating via electronic communications equipment.
• Maintain a clean, stocked, and properly tagged ambulance.
• Respond to 911 calls and hospital transfers in a timely manner.
• Use IAM Responding and "respond now" to keep partners updated on response status.
• Utilize appropriate radio communication with mutual aid partners.
• Operate ambulance equipment, provide proper patient care, and use a team-based approach to move patients toward definitive care.
• Complete side work and ensure clear verbal and written communication.
• Understand and adhere to MVMC and Ambulance policies and procedures, including familiarity with Policy Pro.
• Assist in other areas of the medical center as needed (e.g., central supply, environmental services).
• Act as a patient/family advocate and promote a safe environment for patient care and all employees.
• Develop and maintain professional and courteous working relationships with staff, patients, health professionals, students, vendors, and volunteers.
• Complete KnowBe4 training in a timely fashion.
• Maintain all pertinent logs, reports, and documentation as per policy.
• Cover shifts outside of normal job duties and respond positively to change.

Ambulance Responsibilities

• Perform daily ambulance checks.
• Respond to 911 calls and hospital transfers promptly.
• Use IAM Responding and "respond now" to keep partners informed.
• Communicate appropriately with mutual aid partners via radio.
• Utilize ambulance equipment and provide team-based patient care.
• Complete patient handoff, restock the ambulance, clean equipment, and return the ambulance to service with dispatch.
• Participate in on-call coverage and response.
• Complete endorsements, documentation, and PCR reports in Image Trend, including all pertinent paperwork (e.g., face sheet, medical necessity, refusal, ABN) within 24 hours of the call.
• Ensure accuracy and timely completion of all paperwork.

ER Tech Responsibilities

• Assist nursing staff and CNAs during shift changes, covering the hospital floor and ER as needed.
• Communicate with nurses and ER providers regarding patient care, diagnostics, and plans.
• Perform quick registration of patients.
• Assist with call lights, patient movement, treatments, and clean-up.
• Promote safe and effective infection control measures (e.g., safe linen handling, peri-care, room cleaning post-discharge).
• Gather and record patient information such as input/output (I & O) and vital signs in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Perform other ER Tech and related hospital duties as requested.
• Maintain cleanliness of patient care areas, including bathrooms, tub rooms, lounges, and utility rooms.
• Provide 1:1 patient care as needed.
• Ensure appropriate stocking of patient care areas (e.g., refrigerators, care carts).

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Montana State EMT Licensure.
• BLS certification and Annual Safety Training.
• Annual N-95 Mask Fitting.

Equipment Used

• Ambulance and related medical transport equipment (e.g., stretcher, folding stretcher, scoop stretcher, spine boards, KED).
• Spinal immobilization equipment.
• Radios and computerized communications equipment (iPad, iPhone, pager).
• Splinting devices, suction devices, bandaging materials.
• Oxygen bottles and tubing, basic airway management devices.
• Intravenous fluid therapy equipment.
• Fire extinguisher, simple extrication devices, mechanics tools.
• Pneumatic anti-shock garment, blood pressure cuff, stethoscope.
• Patient restraints, traction devices, and other medical equipment as introduced.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

• Extensive standing and walking; occasional reaching, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull at least 50 pounds.
• Very good close vision and ability to identify and distinguish colors.
• Some risk of radiation exposure and electrical shock.
• Work environment is a clean hospital setting with quiet to moderate noise levels.
• Frequent keyboarding and repetitive movements.

Non-Essential Functions

• Attend workshops, seminars, and educational sessions to stay updated on changes in assigned responsibilities.
