About the role

The Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) Manager is accountable for the implementation, execution, and support of all VDC processes and model-connected technologies at the business unit and/or project level. This role is key to planning, documenting, and executing VDC deliverables to facilitate with project and owner requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with the Operations team to ensure VDC execution aligns with project and company strategy.
  • Drive project site/BU collaboration as an operational leader and cross-functional expert.
  • Lead the VDC team in the leadership and development of team members.
  • Communicate effectively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.
  • Manage and maintain VDC program budget.
  • Align VDC program milestones with construction schedules and time-sensitive deliverables.
  • Streamline VDC processes and share lessons learned with other sites.
  • Maintain project VDC performance metrics and implement corrective actions.
  • Implement and adhere to corporate standards for VDC/BIM/VR/QA/QC requirements and workflows.
  • Facilitate VDC kick-off meetings and develop BEP standards on specified projects.
  • Plan projects to optimize efficiency of various resources.
  • Oversee third-party detailers and collaborators, managing their performance.
  • Manage technology activities and initiatives, including new technology implementations.
  • Ensure project teams have appropriate VDC support, tools, workflows, and technical resources.
  • Evaluate and implement new workflows and technologies to improve project delivery efficiency and operational consistency.
  • Evaluate VDC team members' progress and performance and hold individuals accountable.
  • Drive education and adoption of VDC use across the entire project.
  • Contribute to Fortis monthly VDC Group meetings and initiatives.
  • Develop career growth opportunities and training plans for VDC team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience using Navisworks; advanced understanding of clash detection process and reality capture resources (laser scan data and photogrammetry mesh models).
  • Demonstrated knowledge to work in multiple disciplines (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Architecture, Structural, and Civil).
  • Experience leading project teams or mentoring technical staff.
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent project workflows and priorities.
  • Strong understanding of construction operations, sequencing, and field execution workflows.
  • Technologically inclined, with expert-level knowledge of VDC processes and technologies (see Technical Proficiencies below).
  • Basic knowledge of scheduling using tools like P6 or MS Projects.
  • Extensive knowledge of features, functions, and limitations of Autodesk BIM306 platforms (Glue, Field, Docs, Plan).
  • Experience with complex workflows.
  • Experience with Reality Capture tools, technologies, and workflows such as laser scanning, point clouds, total station layout, GIS, photogrammetry, and drone aerial imaging software.
  • Able to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational skills.

Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record in accordance with Fortis policy.
