The Vice President, Construction, provides strategic vision, executive leadership, and operational oversight for all construction activities and construction management teams within the Irvine Company Office Properties Orange County portfolio. This role serves as the primary collaborative bridge between Construction, Leasing, Asset Management, Operations, Accounting, Legal, and Planning & Design, driving departmental performance while maintaining elite customer experience standards.

About the role

This high-impact leader oversees tenant improvement, capital upgrades, reinvestment/repositioning projects, and ground-up development construction management, managing an annual volume of approximately $200M to $300M. The role directly leads a team of Directors, Construction Managers, and Coordinators, alongside third-party consultants and contractors.

Responsibilities

  • Provide executive oversight and operational direction for the Orange County Construction team, ensuring alignment with broader corporate goals.
  • Cultivate a high-performing team through coaching, mentorship, and leadership development, while building training frameworks for internal and external partners.
  • Establish cross-departmental workflows and evaluate internal operations to integrate new technologies and improve efficiency.
  • Balance operational workloads across Directors and Construction Managers to address staffing constraints and maintain performance.
  • Lead high-value contract negotiations, master agreements, and change orders with architects, engineers, and general contractors.
  • Spearhead early-stage constructability reviews, provide Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) pricing, and partner on financial proforma development and acquisition due diligence.
  • Serve as the company’s internal construction expert, advising executive leadership on market indicators, macro buyout strategies, and industry trends.

Skills

  • Proficient knowledge of financial aspects of commercial office construction, including value-engineering, proposals, bid-leveling, estimating, budget control, pay applications, and tenant billings.
  • Expert-level knowledge of commercial office MEP, Civil, Structural Engineering, and construction document plan review.
  • Thorough working knowledge of MS Office, Google Office Suite, and MS Project.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent experience) in Construction/Project Management, Architecture, Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • 15+ years of relevant work experience.
  • LEED Certification preferred.
  • Valid California driver’s license; must maintain continuous vehicle liability insurance as required by state law (regular and frequent vehicle operation is essential).

Pay

Base Pay Range: $222,500.00 - $312,100.00. Actual placement within this range may vary based on relevant experience, time in role, internal peer salary, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location.
