UX Engineer (Hybrid)
About the role
Join the Designbase team at Homebase as a Design Engineer. You'll work closely with the Design Systems Lead Designer and an existing Design Engineer to bridge the gap between designer visions and engineering implementations, focusing on web and native app surfaces.
Responsibilities
- Build net-new components, ensuring they align with design intent in Figma and are documented in Storybook.
- Maintain and evolve existing components, auditing and updating the library as needed.
- Bridge Figma and code, maintaining consistency and catching discrepancies.
- Create clear documentation for engineers to use, including usage guidelines, prop tables, and accessibility notes.
- Leverage AI tools to accelerate your workflow and ensure high-quality components.
- Work closely with iOS and Android teams to ensure components meet high standards.
- Advocate for accessibility in component architecture and catch violations early.
- Support cross-team adoption by partnering with product engineers and reviewing PRs.
- Own the system layer, considering token architecture and the Figma-to-code pipeline.
Requirements
- 4-7 years of frontend, UX engineering, or design engineering experience, with significant time in a design systems context.
- React Native experience, understanding the differences between web and native development.
- Fluency in Storybook for documenting components.
- Experience maintaining design-to-code fidelity and cross-platform thinking.
- Knowledge of WCAG 2.1 AA and platform accessibility standards.
- High proficiency in using AI tools in your workflow.
- Strong written communication skills for creating clear documentation.
- Component testing fluency with React Testing Library and Jest.
- Optional: Ruby on Rails or backend experience.
