About the role
The department at Chapel Hill is looking for a data analyst/statistician at or above the master’s degree level, to work in a collaborative team of investigators and perform statistical analyses to gain new discoveries to help trauma survivors. The primary focus of the position will be to assist with analyses of different longitudinal data collected as part of the ~$35 million dollar AURORA study.
Responsibilities
- Data analysis
Develop scripts/code as necessary to streamline/optimize analyses - Communication – writing/editing
Write analytics methods for peer-reviewed publications, and summarize analysis results for stakeholders and stakeholder meetings - Data Collection
Assist with analyses of varied longitudinal data collected as part of the AURORA study - Administration
Maintain meta-data regarding databases and work performed - Data Collection
Develop analysis plans in collaboration with members of the research team
Requirements and Preferences
- Minimum Experience/Education
Master’s degree in a social science, applied science, clinical science, epidemiology, or closely related discipline required; PhD preferred. Foreign equivalent degrees will be considered. Candidates with a Master’s degree plus extensive relevant experience in advanced quantitative analysis will also be considered in lieu of a PhD. - Demonstrated experience conducting advanced statistical analyses, with the ability to independently learn and apply new analytical methods as needed.
- Experience with structural equation modeling (SEM) strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in statistical programming and analysis software, including R; experience with Mplus preferred.
- Demonstrated scientific writing ability, including contributing to peer-reviewed manuscripts, technical reports, or research publications.
- Experience working in clinical, epidemiological, or multidisciplinary research environments preferred.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively as part of interdisciplinary teams.

- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, datasets, and project timelines effectively.
- Ability to analyze complex longitudinal data collected across research studies, including cleaning, structuring, and interpreting multi-timepoint datasets.
- Experience with bioinformatics research, including working with biological, clinical, or molecular datasets and applying computational or statistical methods to interpret results.
