About the Role
The Utility Worker is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the pot and pan area and the dishroom. This includes washing dishes according to established procedures and completing daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning tasks in these areas.
Responsibilities
- Ensures all units and equipment are cleaned according to local and hospital food safety standards.
- Washes dishes in the pot and pan sink using the three-pot sink method: Wash, Rinse, Sanitize with correct chemicals and water temperature.
- Changes water frequently to ensure dishes are cleaned properly.
- Air-dries all pots and pans; avoids wet nesting (stacking).
- Puts dishes away in their correct locations.
- Follows procedures for setting up the dish machine and ensures correct chemicals are used.
- Breaks down food carts and runs dishes through the machine.
- Washes hands between handling dirty and clean dishes and changes gloves as needed.
- Air-dries all dishes and puts them away, ensuring the trayline has enough dishes for patient service before meal periods.
- Completes required logs, including dish machine temperature, sanitizer, weekly and monthly cleaning lists, and three-pot sink temperature logs.
- Empties grease traps and disposes of oils according to food and safety guidelines.
