• Additional monthly stipends for Water Distribution Operator certifications:
  • $500.00 per month for a Grade 4 certification.
  • $1,025.00 per month for a Grade 5 certification.

Responsibilities

Utility Service Workers perform a variety of maintenance, construction, and repair tasks to support the city’s water, wastewater, and stormwater systems. Duties include but are not limited to:

• Repairing and maintaining water lines, hydrants, and sewer systems.
• Assisting with emergency response efforts.
• Operating and maintaining heavy equipment.
• Performing trench and shoring activities in compliance with safety standards.
• Responding to natural disasters or emergencies, which may require overtime, nights, weekends, or holidays.

Requirements

Any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical path to qualification includes:

Education

• Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, supplemented by college-level coursework in water science or a related field.

Experience

• Utility Service Worker I: One (1) year of experience in utility or public works-related maintenance and construction.
• Utility Service Worker II: Two (2) years of experience in utility or public works-related maintenance and construction.

Licenses & Certifications

• Utility Service Worker I:
  • Possession of, or successful acquisition within 12 months of appointment, a valid Grade D1 Water Distribution Operator Certificate (to be maintained throughout employment).
• Utility Service Worker II:
  • Possession of a valid Grade D1 Water Distribution Operator Certificate upon appointment.
  • Possession of, or successful acquisition within 12 months of employment, a valid Grade D2 Water Distribution Operator Certificate (to be maintained throughout employment).
• Both Levels:
  • Possession of a valid California Class “C” Driver’s License (to be maintained throughout employment).
  • Possession of, or successful acquisition within 12 months of appointment, a valid California Class “A” Driver’s License with tanker endorsement (to be maintained throughout employment).
  • Successful acquisition within 12 months of appointment of the following certifications (to be maintained throughout employment):
    • Trench and shoring certification from the City of Corona's training program.
    • First aid and CPR certification from the City of Corona's training program.
    • Heavy equipment operator certification from the City of Corona's training program.
