About the role

Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, or replace service lines, water meters, hydrants, valves, and main lines.
  • Assist in blue-staking of utility assets and maintenance or repairs related to the sewer collection system.
  • Read water meters and respond to customer service requests.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of specialized equipment including boring equipment, service/crane truck, tapping equipment, backhoe, loader, dump truck, pick-up, hand tools, jackhammers, whackers, digging bars, and shovels.
  • Work closely with other divisions, departments, outside public and private agencies, and the general public.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 1-3 years or more of experience in the field of water quality or water operations.
  • A current Arizona Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a tanker endorsement.
  • An ADEQ Grade 1 Distribution and Collections certification.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, nights, and weekends.

Qualifications

  • Passes physical standards and requirements for working in confined spaces and trenches.
  • Complies with safety standards, regulations, and policies.
  • Follows OSHA and Town safety standards including the use and wear of respirators, hard hats, protective clothing/eyewear/footwear, and other related materials or equipment.
  • Confined space entry capability.
  • On-call rotation for the division and response to emergency call-backs.

Skills

  • Working knowledge of materials, practices, and equipment used in water system maintenance and repair activities.
  • Occupational hazards and safety precautions for operating assigned equipment.
  • Basic preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.
  • General procedures for installing, maintaining, and repairing underground water infrastructure.

Pay

The pay range for a Utility Worker I is $21.87 to $33.29. The pay range for a Utility Worker II is $25.05 to $38.12.

Schedule

This position has a normal 40-hour per week work schedule, coordinated with the assigned Supervisor, but also requires being part of the on-call rotation for the division and responding to emergency call-backs.
