About the role
The Utility Plant Operator 2 position with the Department of Human Services at South Mountain Restoration Center offers a hands-on role focusing on operating and maintaining steam generating boilers to support essential services.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain steam generating boilers to meet steam demands
- Check pumps, fans, compressors, and related equipment to ensure proper function
- Test water softness and chemical levels and make adjustments to stay within required limits
- Record plant operating conditions and maintain usage and production logs
- Perform repairs, install equipment, and complete preventive maintenance assignments
- Operate emergency generator systems and drive state vehicles to collect needed parts or supplies
Qualifications
- One year of experience as a Utility Plant Operator 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
- One year of semi-skilled work experience in the operation, maintenance, or repair of industrial, commercial, or institutional utility plant systems and related equipment
- An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes six months of semi-skilled work experience in the operation, maintenance, or repair of industrial, commercial, or institutional utility plant systems and related equipment
- You must be in possession of an active Class C motor vehicle license
- You must meet the PA residency requirement
- You must be able to perform essential job functions
