Utility Estimator

About the role

An estimator is responsible for estimating the costs, resources, and time required to complete a project or provide a service. They analyze project specifications, blueprints, and other documentation to prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates. Estimators work in various industries, such as construction, manufacturing, and engineering, and their duties may vary based on the industry and specific project requirements.

Location: Oak Brook Terrace, IL.

Responsibilities

• Reviewing project specifications, drawings, and other documentation to understand project requirements.
• Identifying and quantifying project costs, including materials, labor, equipment, and overhead.
• Obtaining quotes and pricing from suppliers and subcontractors.
• Analyzing historical data and industry trends to develop cost estimates.
• Collaborating with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to understand project scope and requirements.
• Preparing and submitting competitive bids and proposals.
• Participating in project meetings and discussions to provide cost-related insights and recommendations.
• Updating and maintaining cost databases and estimating tools.
• Monitoring and controlling project costs throughout the project lifecycle.
• Providing cost-related support and analysis to project teams and management.

Requirements

• Prior estimating experience at utility such as Electric, Gas or Generation.
• Experience working on High voltage distribution, Substation, and Transmission projects.

• Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with project teams and stakeholders.
• Attention to detail.
• Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.

Schedule

1+ year contract; hybrid schedule – Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday in office; remote Monday & Friday.
