Summary Description

Performs specialized custodial duties across WCSD under general supervision. Responds to emergency clean-ups (water, sewer, petroleum, etc.) and hazardous material incidents. Handles viral/bacterial outbreak response and provides process-cleaning training. Conducts impact cleaning, carpet extraction/repair, gym floor screening and finish application. Performs minor maintenance, grounds work, and painting tasks. Maintains clean, sanitary, safe, and orderly building areas; secures rooms and cleaning stations. Moves building equipment and furniture as needed. May serve as substitute custodian, acting Site Facility Coordinator, or Lead Custodian. Trains, evaluates, and retrains custodians in Process Cleaning for Health. Performs related duties as assigned. May be assigned to early morning, morning, afternoon, evening, or night shifts as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Training & Oversight
    • Supervises and evaluates new hire custodial trainees.
    • Inspects trainee work for compliance with standards.
    • Provides orientation, training, and performance evaluations.
    • Recommends personnel actions related to training completion.
    • Provides Process Cleaning for Health training to Site Facility Coordinators, Lead Custodians, and Custodians.
  • Operational & Technical Duties
    • Maintains operational and training records.
    • Inventories and maintains specialized custodial supplies and equipment.
    • Repairs and maintains specialized equipment (gym, emergency response, etc.).
    • Must be respirator-fit tested and wear required PPE for emergency response.
  • Custodial Work
    • Sweeps, mops, scrubs, shampoos, and waxes various floor surfaces.
    • Vacuums, repairs, and steam-cleans carpets and rugs.
    • Dusts, washes, waxes, and polishes furniture, fixtures, shelves, counters, and woodwork.
    • Cleans walls, desks, tables, blackboards, and whiteboards.
    • Deep-cleans and sanitizes restrooms, locker rooms, and showers.
    • Refills dispensers, washes windows, empties trash, and restocks supplies.
    • Performs other custodial tasks as assigned.
  • Maintenance & Facility Support
    • Moves and assembles furniture and equipment.
    • Sets up rooms and auditoriums for meetings and events.
    • Opens and prepares areas for special events.
    • Performs minor maintenance:
      • Replacing lights
      • Painting small rooms or trim
      • Removing/tagging broken furniture
      • Removing carpet, tile, or cabinetry
      • Reporting vandalism or repair needs
    • Performs some grounds work:
      • Snow removal
      • Mowing
      • Weeding
      • Irrigating
      • Litter pickup
    • Ensures doors/windows are locked, alarms set, and security lights on.
  • Special Projects & Seasonal Work
    • Participates in intensive summer cleaning and building restoration.
    • Screens and applies gym finish to all district gym floors.
    • Paints interior and exterior walls.
    • Strips, seals, and waxes floors using power equipment.
  • Emergency Response
    • May be called during off-hours for district emergencies:
      • Burglaries
      • Vandalism
      • Fires
      • Snow removal
      • Equipment failures
      • Flooding
      • Viral/bacterial outbreaks

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma is desirable but not required
  • Experience: One to two years of custodial experience demonstrating reliability and good work habits, or equivalent maintenance training and experience.
  • Licenses/Certificates: None

Salary and Benefits

  • Grade 18 CSCA FY26
  • Salary Range: Sch A: $18.27 (entry step); Sch B: $21.97 (entry step)

  • Temporary employees working less than 6 months do not receive benefits.
  • New employees will be fingerprinted upon hire and every five years thereafter and will have $58.50 deducted from their first paycheck to help defray the cost of fingerprinting. Non-licensed employees will have $58.50 deduction when their fingerprints are completed every five years. Fingerprint fees are subject to change.
