Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, and inspect high-pressure steam boilers, electric generators, air compressors, process cooling water, water treatment systems, and associated auxiliary equipment.
- Maintain daily logs of operation, maintenance, and safety activities.
- Ensure continuous compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to air quality, water quality, and safety.
- Maintain proper water levels in boilers, adjust combustion air supplies, and control fuel flow into burners.
- Test water quality and take corrective actions to maintain chemical conditions for steam generation, processing cooling, and wastewater systems.
- Analyze problems and take appropriate corrective actions to ensure continuous operation.
- Adjust controls and valves to regulate system operations.
- Isolate equipment mechanically and electrically for safe inspection and repair (Lock Out Tag Out).
- Keep the Utilities Chief Engineer informed of operating conditions.
- Support company safety, appearance, compliance, quality, and cost standards.
- Complete safety and equipment audits as assigned.
- Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
- Extensive field work walking throughout the facility.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and climb heights including boilers, cooling towers, and storage tanks.
- Dexterity working with tools and machinery.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry objects up to 65 lbs.
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions and use PPE.
- Must have a Commonwealth of Massachusetts Third Class Engineers License (REQUIRED).
- 3+ years of experience working with high-pressure boilers and related equipment.
- Ability to obtain Grade 3M or higher Municipal Wastewater License within 12 months of start date.
