Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, and inspect high-pressure steam boilers, electric generators, air compressors, process cooling water, water treatment systems, and associated auxiliary equipment including pumps, valves, transmitters, gauges, alarms, and safety devices to detect malfunctions and ensure reliable, efficient, and safe operation.
  • Maintain daily logs of operation, maintenance, and safety activities, including test results, instrument readings, and equipment malfunctions for regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure continuous compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to air quality, water quality, and safety.
  • Maintain proper water levels in boilers, adjust combustion air supplies, and control fuel flow into burners.
  • Test water quality and take corrective actions to maintain chemical conditions for steam generation, processing cooling, and wastewater systems.
  • Interpret readings from gauges, meters, and charts to monitor boiler operation within normal parameters.
  • Analyze problems and take appropriate corrective actions to ensure continuous operation.
  • Adjust controls and valves to regulate system operations.
  • Isolate equipment mechanically and electrically for safe inspection and repair (Lock Out Tag Out).
  • Keep the Utilities Chief Engineer informed of operating conditions.
  • Support company safety, appearance, compliance, quality, and cost standards.
  • Complete safety and equipment audits as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Extensive field work walking throughout the facility.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and climb heights including boilers, cooling towers, and storage tanks.
  • Dexterity working with tools and machinery.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry objects up to 65 lbs.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions and use PPE.
  • Must have a Commonwealth of Massachusetts Third Class Engineers License (REQUIRED).
  • 3+ years of experience working with high-pressure boilers and related equipment.
  • Able to obtain Grade 3M or higher Municipal Wastewater License within 12 months of start date.
  • Physical requirements include frequent walking, standing, lifting, and climbing.
  • Skills include operation monitoring, critical thinking, system control, active listening, and monitoring performance.

Pay

$28.00 To $42.00 Hourly

Schedule

12-hour shifts either 6 am - 6 pm or 6 pm - 6 am. Candidates need to be able to work day or night shift. Two-week rotation. Week 1: Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday (48 hours) Week 2: Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday (36 hours)
