About the role
HireArt is helping an on-demand, autonomous ride-hailing company hire a User Experience Hardware Electrical Engineer to support the electrical hardware that powers the in-cabin rider experience, including displays, speakers, video systems, and primary video controllers.
Responsibilities
- Own sustaining engineering activities for the current production infotainment hardware platform
- Investigate field, production, and returned-hardware issues through hands-on debugging, log analysis, component-level troubleshooting, and root cause investigation
- Partner closely with software and firmware engineers to determine whether issues originate in hardware, software, or system integration
- Develop and implement corrective actions while clearly communicating findings, technical decisions, and recommended solutions
- Support hardware development from prototype through production, including bring-up, validation, deployment, and engineering change activities
- Coordinate with external suppliers on technical issues, drawing reviews, requirements, validation, manufacturing readiness, and production support
- Partner with mechanical, systems, software, firmware, manufacturing, and quality engineering teams to resolve cross-functional hardware issues
- Support manufacturing sites and production teams with supplier quality concerns, returned-hardware investigations, and production readiness
- Build rapid prototypes and proof-of-concept hardware to support future infotainment and in-cabin user experience platforms
- Develop and execute component- and system-level validation test plans
- Travel within the Bay Area, to manufacturing sites, and internationally as needed to support suppliers, testing, and production activities
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related discipline
- 5+ years of experience in electrical component or system design, integration, and troubleshooting
- Strong hands-on electrical debugging, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis skills
- Experience developing and supporting hardware from prototype through production
- Experience working directly with external suppliers throughout development, validation, and production
- Experience investigating complex field, manufacturing, or production hardware issues
- Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills
- Ability to clearly explain technical findings, decisions, and recommendations to technical stakeholders
- Ability to travel within the Bay Area, to manufacturing sites, and internationally as needed
Bonus Qualifications
- Experience with automotive electronics, infotainment systems, displays, speakers, video systems, or related HMI hardware
- Experience supporting manufacturing, production readiness, supplier quality, or returned-hardware investigations
- Experience working across hardware, firmware, and software interfaces
- Familiarity with automotive communication networks and protocols such as CAN bus, automotive Ethernet, A2B, or similar systems
- Experience with onboard digital interfaces such as SPI, UART, I2C, or I2S
- Experience with electrical validation, EMI/EMC testing, or system-level troubleshooting
- Firmware or software experience, including Python, C/C++, or scripting languages
- Strong presentation and technical storytelling skills

This is a full-time, ongoing contract position staffed via HireArt. It will be onsite and available to candidates who are local to the Foster City, CA area.
