About the Role
The Used Car Buyer is responsible for prospecting, appraising, and presenting offers to current vehicle owners to purchase their vehicles from multiple sources for resale.
Responsibilities
- Prospect, appraise, and present purchase offers to current vehicle owners from multiple sources
- Interface with dealership customers to appraise and offer to purchase their current vehicles
- Utilize Sonic Automotive’s automated inventory management system to track and manage vehicle acquisitions
- Analyze market trends and changes in the geographic market to inform pricing and acquisition strategies
- Provide guidance and support to dealership Sales Associates regarding used vehicle purchasing
- Maintain a prospect development and follow-up system to encourage repeat and referral business while contributing to guest satisfaction
- Introduce guests to sales department personnel to facilitate new vehicle sales after purchasing their existing vehicle
- Attend daily trade walks, sales meetings, and training courses as requested by management
- Maintain knowledge of federal, state, and local automotive sales laws, vehicle equity, values, and depreciation concepts
- Establish and achieve personal income goals consistent with dealership productivity standards
- Maintain a safe work environment, professional appearance, and positive demeanor with associates and guests
- Report to Supervisor regarding objectives, activities, and analyses; review performance daily, weekly, monthly, and annually to improve effectiveness
- Follow work rules, procedures, and directions from supervisors while accepting constructive criticism
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred but not required
- High level of customer service skills
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information
- Professional personal appearance
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to meet company’s production and quality standards
- Outstanding computer skills
- Previous dealership, selling, or marketing experience preferred
- Authorized to work in the USA
- Must perform duties and responsibilities in a safe manner
- Must pass pre-employment testing including background checks, MVR, drug test, credit report, and valid driver license
Pay
Base hourly compensation: $18.00
Commission: Based on the value or number of closed sales, ranging from $0.00 (if no sales are made) with no upper limit
Production bonus: Based on individual or team performance, ranging from $0.00 (if baseline benchmarks are not met) with no fixed upper limit
Total salary range: $5,000 - $12,000 per month, based on performance
