USDA-ARS Fellowship Opportunity in Fish Nutritional Analysis
Agricultural Research Service (ARS)
The Agricultural Research Service (ARS) is part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and focuses on providing scientific solutions to agricultural problems affecting Americans.
Research Project
Atlantic salmon are cultured worldwide to supply food for growing populations. To enhance salmon production while maintaining product quality, new ingredients need to be identified. Protein and lipid ingredients form the bulk of salmon feed. Analyzing the protein and lipid content, along with fatty acid and amino acid profiles of potential ingredients is crucial for their evaluation. This fellowship will allow you to gain experience in evaluating these ingredients and learning about salmon nutrition and fillet quality.
- Learn about Atlantic salmon nutrition and fillet quality.
- Participate in making salmon diets at an ARS experimental feed production facility.
- Visit other collaborators involved with this project.
- Gain experience in salmon culture (salmon care).
- Understand experimental design.
