USDA-ARS Fellowship Opportunity in Fish Nutritional Analysis at Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education
Description
The Agricultural Research Service (ARS) is seeking applications for a fellowship opportunity in fish nutritional analysis at the National Cold Water Marine Aquaculture Center in Franklin, Maine. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
Research Project
Atlantic salmon are cultured worldwide to meet increasing demand. New ingredients are needed to enhance production while maintaining product quality. This fellowship will focus on evaluating potential feed ingredients by determining their protein, lipid, fatty acid, and amino acid profiles. Participants will also gain hands-on experience in nutritional analysis methods such as sample preparation, proximate analysis, and astaxanthin analysis. They will learn how to perform fatty acid, amino acid, and particle size analyses to assess ingredient quality and suitability for salmon diets. Understanding how these analytical results influence diet formulation for efficient, high-quality salmon production is another key objective.
