USDA-ARS Fellowship: Nutritional Transcriptomics in Dairy Cattle
About the role
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is seeking a participant for a research opportunity at the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) in Madison, Wisconsin. The participant will work on investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying dairy cattle metabolic and enteric diseases under the guidance of Wenli Li.
Responsibilities
- Perform RNA extraction, quality control, RNA sequencing library preparation using both bulk and single cell RNA sequencing technologies
- Conduct bioinformatics data analysis
- Learn large animal trial management
- Develop scientific networking, management, and career development skills
Requirements
The participant should be currently pursuing or have received a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree in engineering, biological/biosystems engineering, life health and medical sciences, or a related field. The degree must have been received within the past five years or be currently pursued.
Qualifications
The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience.
Skills
Knowledge of bioinformatics techniques required for metagenomics and metatranscriptomics analysis, proficiency in laboratory techniques, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Benefits
Participants do not become employees of USDA, ARS, DOE, or the program administrator. There are no employment-related benefits. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program.
Pay
The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience.
Schedule
The appointment will initially be for one year but may be renewed upon recommendation of ARS and is contingent on the availability of funds.
