About the role

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is seeking a researcher to join the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) at their Lexington, Kentucky location. The ARS aims to find solutions to agricultural problems affecting Americans every day, focusing on scientific excellence.

Research Project

The project involves studying the impact of plant and fungal secondary metabolites on grazing livestock physiology and productivity. This includes examining forage grasses, legumes, and hemp secondary metabolites and mycotoxins, using in vitro and in vivo animal models. The participant will also work with animal tissue and cell culture models to study compound absorption and biological activity.

Learning Objectives

  • Learn and use basic aseptic techniques for surgical procedures and long-term cell culture
  • Prepare vascular isolations and smooth muscle myography
  • Study ruminal and intestinal epithelial and smooth muscle tissues for absorption and contractility
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to identify, evaluate, and manipulate genetic, metabolic, and physiological factors related to grazing livestock health and productivity
  • Expand knowledge and expertise in experimental design, in vitro, and in vivo research, data analysis, data interpretation, and manuscript preparation for publication

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently received a doctoral degree in relevant fields
  • Must have completed degree within the last year or be expected to complete by July 1, 2026
  • U.S. citizenship only

Stipend

The participant will receive a monthly stipend of $74,678 annually.
