As a Senior Software Engineer, you will lead the delivery of scalable software solutions by managing feature implementation, testing, and ongoing support within collaborative teams. This role requires expertise in multiple programming languages and a strong focus on software lifecycle execution, including automation and continuous integration. You will integrate AI/ML components to enhance system intelligence and contribute to solution design and technical leadership.
About the team
The Sparky platform team develops and scales chat applications handling millions of messages daily across Walmart. The team builds robust, scalable infrastructure supporting generative AI workflows using technologies like Java, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms. Members collaborate to design and implement high-performance solutions aligned with business goals. Focused on technical excellence and continuous improvement, the team delivers impactful projects enhancing communication experiences organization-wide. This role is part of the Sparky evals platform team, responsible for building essential evaluation guardrails for development and production monitoring, fostering innovation and reliable software delivery.
Responsibilities
- Own scoped feature and model delivery through collaborative engineering teams, managing implementation, iteration, testing, and support.
- Write clean, efficient, and reliable code across multiple languages, driving full software development lifecycle including CI/CD and automated testing.
- Leverage generative AI tools to improve development velocity.
- Assist in solution design by converting high-level concepts into detailed, scalable, and maintainable software systems.
- Conduct code reviews, debugging, and defect management to ensure quality and performance.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical requirements and measure solution impact.
- Monitor application performance and support continuous integration and delivery practices.
- Mentor peers, promote engineering best practices, and contribute to innovation and continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements
- Proven expertise in object-oriented programming and documentation-based coding practices.
- Strong experience delivering scoped features and managing full software development lifecycle including CI/CD and automated testing.
- Proficiency in debugging, code review, and continuous development methodologies.
- Ability to design scalable, secure, and maintainable software solutions aligned with platform objectives.
- Experience integrating AI/ML components and leveraging generative AI tools to enhance development.
- Demonstrated technical judgment and ownership to drive projects to completion with high quality.
- Effective collaboration skills to communicate complex ideas across cross-functional teams.
- Commitment to continuous learning, innovation, and mentoring within engineering teams.
Qualifications
Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
Option 2: 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 1 year's experience in software engineering or related area (preferred).

Pay
The annual salary range for this position is $117,000.00 - $234,000.00. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses and stock for certain positions.
