Walmart is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the delivery of scalable, secure software solutions aligned with platform and business objectives. This role involves managing full lifecycle development, including design, implementation, testing, and ongoing support of services, APIs, and AI/ML components. About the team
The Creative Platform team develops and maintains Walmart’s first-party self-service ad creative builder, enabling advertisers to create and deliver ad creatives across the retail media network. This team manages the full backend stack, including creative management APIs, video transcoding, and image optimization. Focused on scalable, reliable solutions, the team supports onsite and offsite ad delivery with high performance and seamless integration.
Responsibilities
- Lead full lifecycle development, including design, implementation, testing, and support of services, APIs, and AI/ML components.
- Collaborate across teams to translate complex requirements into reliable, maintainable code.
- Build and implement microservices and applications using SpringBoot and reactive frameworks like Spring WebFlux.
- Develop internet-scale distributed technologies (e.g., Solr, Kafka, Mem Cache).
- Apply strong understanding of JEE components, multithreading, networking, offline storage, caching, and performance tuning.
- Work with cloud-based solutions and CI/CD tools (Git, Maven, Jenkins).
- Integrate AI/ML components and leverage generative AI tools to enhance software solutions.
- Design scalable, secure, and maintainable software aligned with platform and business goals.
- Engage in code review, debugging, and continuous development practices.
- Drive innovation, maintain system quality, and deliver impactful features.
Requirements
- 5 years of experience as a Senior Software Engineer.
- Expert-level knowledge of Java and experience building Java-based backend systems.
- Extensive experience with microservices and SpringBoot, including reactive frameworks like Spring WebFlux.
- Experience with NoSQL databases like Cassandra.
- Strong understanding of CS fundamentals, data structures, algorithms, and problem-solving.
- Proven expertise in object-oriented programming and documentation-based coding practices.
- Proficiency in software development lifecycle, including CI/CD, automated testing, and observability.
- Ability to design scalable, secure, and maintainable software.
- Effective collaboration and communication skills for cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Commitment to engineering excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
- OR 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
- Preferred: Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related area and 1 year's experience in software engineering.
- Preferred: Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, implementing WCAG 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility best practices.

Pay
- Bellevue, Washington: $108,000.00 - $216,000.00 annual salary.
- Sunnyvale, California: $117,000.00 - $234,000.00 annual salary.
- Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses and stock for certain positions.
