About the role
We are looking to hire a Unit Secretary/CNA. As a Unit Secretary/CNA at MercyOne, you are a member of MercyOne Medical Center-Clinton’s healthcare team and is under the direct supervision of a registered professional nurse providing quality, evidence-based, patient-centered care by assisting the patient with activities of daily living, as well as, other physical, emotional and spiritual needs consistent with the mission of MercyOne Clinton, vision of patient care services, evidence-based standard of care and established policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Transcribes selected physician orders, performs order entry on the computer, schedules diagnostic tests and therapies for patients, assembles admission and discharge charts and maintains patient medical records
- Completes documentation for billing, answers telephone calls, provides routine approved information via telephone and in person and relays other calls and messages to appropriate staff
- Demonstrates professional behavior consistent with the mission of MercyOne Clinton, the Vision of Patient Care Services, evidence-based standards of care and established policies and procedures
- Under the supervision of an RN, assists with the provision of patient care and other delegated nursing activities
- Utilizes observation, interpersonal and communication skills to identify changes in patient status that should be reported to the RN
- Captures and maintains patient records
- Orders and maintains inventory of forms and supplies used for the unit
- Assists with the documentation of such parameters as vital signs and intake and output utilizing the appropriate medical record
Requirements
- High school education or equivalent required
- Minimum of three years’ experience in a related field preferred
- BLS certified within 3 months of hire
- Excellent communication skills are required to communicate with various disciplines
- Knowledge of Medical Terminology
Qualifications
- Certified Nurse Aide, verification of certification from the State of Iowa
- Must be able to work concurrently on a variant of tasks in an environment that may be stressful with individuals having diverse personalities and work styles
- Must be able to set and organize own work priorities and adapt to them as they change
