Job Summary

Urgent care Advanced Practitioners (Physician Assistants/Nurse Practitioners) provide a wide variety of clinical services including treatment of acute episodic conditions such as sore throats, colds, flu-like symptoms, cuts, sprains and minor infections. They function in lieu of or alongside of a physician, recognizing more serious conditions and directing patients to the emergency room when necessary.

Job Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree required for Physician Assistants, Master's Degree required for Nurse Practitioners
  • Work Experience: One (1) year of full-time experience in Emergency Medicine or One (1) year of Urgent Care setting experience required. Two (2) years of Family Medicine experience considered.
  • Licenses/Certifications: National Certification, Active state medical licensure

Essential Functions

  • Examining and treating patients
  • Taking patients’ medical histories
  • Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests and X-rays
  • Making diagnoses and prescribing medications
  • Treating minor injuries that may require sutures, splints, or casting
  • Recording progress notes for follow-up patients
  • Education and counseling patients
  • Ordering and/or carrying out therapy with patients
  • Giving vaccinations, and referring patients to additional care

Additional Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Preferred Knowledge and experience with Electronic Medical Records
  • Applicable office procedures including but not limited to suturing, splinting, casting etc.
  • Preliminary reads on EKGs and X-rays required
  • Experience treating patients ages 6 months and up in an acute care setting required
  • Additional Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities: Ability to be attentive with strong listening skills, Strong communication and customer service skills
