About the role

The Division of Pediatric and Adult Congenital Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston is seeking applicants for a faculty position in the field of Pediatric and Adult Congenital Cardiothoracic Surgery.

Responsibilities

• Help establish performance targets that align with institutional goals in patient care, research, education, operations, and finance.
• Develop strong collaborative relationships across the enterprise, including pediatric cardiology, intensive care medicine, anesthesia, hospital administration.
• Ensure excellent patient outcomes, establish innovative programs, support original investigation, mentor faculty and trainees, ensure an environment of diversity and inclusion, and meet financial and operational targets.
• Lead the development of the high volume pediatric and adult congenital heart failure program, including leadership opportunities in heart transplantation and mechanical support.
• Teach, undertake supervision of surgery residents, participate in student education, resident selection and evaluation, and involvement in clinical and translational research.
• Perform approximately 25-40% of his time performing clinical and translational research in collaboration with the established cardiac surgery research team and pediatric cardiology research group.

Requirements

• A minimum of 3 years clinical experience and board certification/eligibility in Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery with additional experience in heart transplantation and mechanical support.
• Completion of a pediatric cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at a recognized institution.
• Licensure to practice medicine in South Carolina before the start date.

• Valid drivers license, computer literacy, ability to work rotating shifts, and ability to work overtime as required.
