MUSC Department of Neurology is recruiting a Vascular Neurologist to join the expansion of its pre-eminent Comprehensive Stroke Program.

About the role

MUSC is one of the busiest stroke programs in the Southeast and serves as the tertiary referral center for most large artery strokes in South Carolina. The program leads the South Carolina Telestroke Alliance, providing acute stroke care to 35+ hospitals statewide and admitting over 1,200 stroke patients annually. MUSC also maintains a robust clinical research enterprise and is a national leader in investigator-initiated research and clinical trials, including serving as a regional coordinating center in the NIH-funded StrokeNet.

The successful candidate will be appointed as an Assistant Professor (or higher, commensurate with experience) on the Clinician Educator Track.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in clinical activities within the MUSC Stroke Program, including:
    • Rounding on the Inpatient Stroke Teaching Ward Service
    • Serving on the Stroke Consult Service
    • Conducting Outpatient Stroke Clinic
    • Participating in the Telestroke consult program
  • Teach vascular neurology fellows, house-staff, and medical students
  • Collaborate in an interdisciplinary setting
  • Engage in clinical trials

Requirements

  • Board-eligible or board-certified in general neurology
  • Completed ACGME-fellowship training in Vascular Neurology
  • Exposure and familiarity with tele-stroke and tele-neurology consultations and services
  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to reach in all directions (Frequent: 2-6 hours per shift)
  • Good finger dexterity (Continuous: 6-8 hours per shift)
  • Ability to maintain tactile sensory functions (Continuous: 6-8 hours per shift)
  • Ability to lift and carry 15 lbs., unassisted (Infrequent: 0-2 hours per shift)
  • Ability to lift objects, up to 15 lbs., from floor level to height of 36 inches, unassisted (Infrequent: 0-2 hours per shift)
  • Ability to lower objects, up to 15 lbs., from height of 36 inches to floor level, unassisted (Infrequent: 0-2 hours per shift)
  • Ability to push/pull objects, up to 15 lbs., unassisted (Infrequent: 0-2 hours per shift)
  • Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes (Continuous: 6-8 hours per shift)
  • Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand (Frequent: 2-6 hours per shift)
  • Ability to see and recognize objects at a distance (Frequent: 2-6 hours per shift)
  • Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception (Continuous: 6-8 hours per shift)
  • Good peripheral vision capabilities (Continuous: 6-8 hours per shift)
  • Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction (Continuous: 6-8 hours per shift)
  • Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements (Frequent: 2-6 hours per shift)
