About the role

The Medical University of South Carolina's (MUSC) Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is seeking an academically-oriented board-certified Transfusion Medicine Physician. MUSC, located in Charleston, SC, is the quaternary medical center for South Carolina and provides a comprehensive transplant program, NCI-designated Hollings Cancer Center, and multiple trauma centers.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive services across the Division, including a large solid organ transplant program and adult and pediatric stem cell transplant program.
• Act as the director of the cell therapy processing laboratory, supporting approximately 260 stem cell transplants and CAR-T procedures annually.
• Foster collaborative relationships with clinicians and researchers, and serve as a resource to technologists at the bench.
• Participate in clinical and/or translational research endeavors.
• Teach medical students and train pathology residents and fellows.
• Contribute to the academic mission of the Department through active participation in teaching and research.

Requirements

• MD or equivalent degree with relevant pathology specialty training and certification by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic, Clinical, and Transfusion Medicine.
• Current fellow/recent graduate in Transfusion Medicine with at least 2 years of training/experience in cell therapy (stem cell) processing laboratory.
• Eligibility for medical licensure in South Carolina.
• Proficiency in interpreting results for transfusion services and complications.
• Experience in transfusion medicine accreditation maintenance, test development, validation, and implementation.
• Excellent communication skills, work ethic, and collaborative approach to patient care.

Qualifications

• Academically-oriented candidate with 2-8 years of post-fellowship experience in Transfusion Medicine.
• At least 2 years of experience or training in cell therapy (stem cell) processing laboratory.
• Ability to perform job functions in various positions and environments.
• Good finger dexterity, ability to maintain tactile sensory functions, and ability to lift up to 15 lbs.
