About the role

The Medical University of South Carolina's (MUSC) Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is seeking an academically-oriented board-certified Transfusion Medicine Physician. Located in Charleston, SC, MUSC is a quaternary medical center with a comprehensive transplant program, NCI-designated Hollings Cancer Center, and multiple trauma centers.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical care and management of patients requiring blood products and cell therapy processing.
  • Act as the director of the cell therapy processing laboratory, overseeing stem cell and CAR-T procedures.
  • Collaborate with clinicians and researchers to support clinical and translational research.
  • Teach medical students and pathology residents and fellows.
  • Maintain accreditation and implement quality control procedures for transfusion services.
  • Optimize performance and foster collaborative relationships with technologists.

Requirements

  • MD or equivalent degree with relevant pathology specialty training and certification by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic, Clinical, and Transfusion Medicine.
  • At least 2 years of experience and/or training in cell therapy (stem cell) processing laboratory.
  • Licensure in South Carolina.
  • Formal training, certification, and/or experience/expertise in constitutional cytogenetics/genetics and cancer genomics.
  • Proficiency in interpreting results for transfusion services and complications.
  • Experience in transfusion medicine accreditation maintenance, test development, validation, and implementation.
  • Excellent communication skills and collaborative approach to patient care.

Qualifications

  • 2-8 years of post-fellowship experience in Transfusion Medicine.
  • Current fellow/recent graduate considered.
  • Ability to perform job functions in various positions and environments.
  • Physical requirements include continuous upright and seated positions, frequent walking, and occasional lifting up to 15 lbs.
