Job Description Summary

The Department of Neuroscience at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) invites applications for an open rank position in the research area of cortical circuit development and function. Applicants should have a PhD and/or MD with appropriate research expertise and are expected to possess an outstanding record of high-quality publications and a strong potential to secure extramural research funding. MUSC’s research-oriented Department of Neuroscience comprises a successful PhD graduate program, two NIH-funded T32 training grants for pre- and postdoctoral scholars, and two NIH-funded Centers. MUSC is located in the coastal city of Charleston, SC – a city known for its rich history, arts and culture, higher education, architecture, top-rated restaurants, and beautiful beaches. Charleston receives perennial honors as a most desirable place to visit and live.

About the Role

The successful candidate will conduct independent research in the field of cortical circuit development and function, contributing to the advancement of scientific knowledge and potentially securing extramural funding. They will be part of a dynamic research environment with opportunities for collaboration and mentorship within the department and across the university.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent research in the field of cortical circuit development and function
  • Secure extramural research funding through competitive grant proposals
  • Collaborate with other researchers and students within the department and across the university
  • Teach and mentor graduate students and postdoctoral fellows
  • Participate in departmental and university-wide research initiatives

Requirements

  • PhD/MD or equivalent
