About the Role
The Department of Neurosurgery at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) seeks applicants for a tenure-eligible or tenured faculty position in the MUSC Brain & Spine Tumor program. The program demonstrates clinical excellence in Neuro-Oncology, Neurosurgery, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, and Neuropathology. MUSC’s Hollings Cancer Center is the state’s only NCI-designated Cancer Center with an active Clinical Trial Program.
Responsibilities
- Participate in clinical activities and associated teaching in the Neuro-Oncology outpatient clinic and inpatient consult service.
- Contribute to and expand the active clinical program, with a strong focus on clinical trial involvement.
- Establish or sustain an extramurally funded and independent research program focusing on brain and spine cancer.
Requirements
- MD or equivalent degree.
- Board-certified or board-eligible in Neurology or Medical Oncology at the time of hire.
- Fellowship training in Neuro-Oncology.
- Background in Medical Oncology or Neurology.
- Experience in clinical or basic research and a strong interest in a career in academic Neuro-Oncology.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform job functions in an upright, seated, or walking/mobile position (frequent).
- Ability to work indoors continuously and outdoors in all weather/temperature extremes (infrequent).
- Ability to work in confined/cramped spaces, kneel, squat, or perform pinching operations (infrequent).
- Full use of both hands/arms, good finger dexterity, and ability to perform repetitive motions (frequent).
- Ability to reach in all directions, maintain tactile sensory functions, and possess 20/40 corrected vision (continuous).
- Ability to see and recognize objects at close and far distances, determine depth perception, and maintain peripheral vision (continuous).
- Ability to maintain hearing acuity with correction (continuous).
- Ability to lift, carry, push/pull, or lower objects up to 15 lbs. unassisted (infrequent).
- Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements (frequent).
