Job Description

The Department of Neurological Surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) seeks a BC/BE neurosurgeon with fellowship training. Level of appointment will be Associate Professor. Candidates with basic or translational research interests are encouraged to apply. Candidate will be expected to actively participate in the academic activities of the Department and College. This participation includes regular attendance at educational activities and mentorship of clinical and/or research post-doctoral fellows as well as graduate students.

About the Role

Candidate must be a fellowship trained Neurosurgeon and be BC/BE in Neurological Surgery, and eligible for a South Carolina medical license. The Department of Neurological Surgery at MUSC is a rapidly growing academic program located in beautiful Charleston South Carolina. Charleston is one of the most historic cities in the southeastern United States and offers a wide variety of recreational activities including swimming, sailing, kayaking, fishing and golf. There are numerous restaurants, and the Spoleto Festival brings exceptional cultural events to the area each year.

Responsibilities

  • Teach fellows, residents and students in Movement Disorders and Functional Neurosurgery
  • Mentor clinical and/or research post-doctoral fellows as well as graduate students
  • Participate in academic activities of the Department and College

Requirements

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Neurological Surgery
  • Fellowship trained in Neurological Surgery
  • Eligible for a South Carolina medical license

  • Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes
  • Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand
  • Ability to see and recognize objects at a distance
  • Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception
  • Good peripheral vision capabilities
  • Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction
  • Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements
